Considering SSL certificates are such a pain, if some company had some easy way to get SSL on there or if they did it for the customers, that could give them an edge in selling hosting.

Any thoughts?

I have paid hosting with both USHost247 and InterServer and they both sort of free SSL certificates pretty easily. I don't have to do anything at all, it's all handled automatically which I love

You could use OpenSSL which is free, most web hosts would help you install it on your domain and I highly suggest to set up Cloudflare and ensure that SSL is set up on there too. It's free, and it has an option to force HTTPS.
